The Need

In the changing economic climate, nonprofit housing developers and housing counseling agencies need to tap into a network of resources and be apprised of changing trends and new regulations to help them successfully serve their clients and improve the supply of quality affordable housing in Illinois.

Solution

Housing Action Illinois shares our collective experience and knowledge with non-profit housing developers and housing counseling agencies by providing a wide range of training and direct technical assistance to address pressing needs of these organizations. We also facilitate working groups on key topics and advocate for the resources these nonprofits need to most effectively fulfill their missions.

Benefit and Impact

Since 1990, Housing Action Illinois has been instrumental in the development or preservation of more than 1,400 affordable housing units. With Housing Action Illinois, nonprofit housing developers have a resource upon which to call when specific problems arise and have a strong network of fellow developers.

We have also been a leader in creating a cohesive voice of counseling agencies on the foreclosure crisis, and within the past year alone have trained more than 200 housing counselors. Through this work housing counseling agencies are better equipped to meet the needs of families and individuals in their communities.
